The Significance of The IMDB Message Boards To Fans

So in my previous post, I wrote that Internet Movie Database(IMDB) are closing their message boards on Feb 20th, for no apparent reason. If you know IMDB, you know that they are nothing without the message boards, where everyone congregates to defend their favorite actors or movies. The topics and threads are usually hilarious, because people have varying opinions about movies and TV shows.

Last year, one of the most tragic comic book films of all time, Suicide Squad, was released. Fans of DC comics, took to IMDB to praise the film, even if it didn’t really live up to the hype. Critics were slightly more forgiving towards the film, compared to Batman V Superman, but still disappointed. And of course, Marvel fans were right there to spew all the things they found wrong with the film. Before I continue, I have to give a summary of the beef between Marvel and DC fans. Now, for those who couldn’t give two rats about comic books, here’s a short lesson in the difference between Marvel and DC comics.

What is Marvel?

Marvel is the comic book franchise that spanned heroes such as Spiderman, X-Men, Blade, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Captain America, and the other Avengers. It also gave us Daredevil, Doctor Strange and Legion, who is getting his own TV show this coming week!

What is DC?

DC is the comic book franchise that spanned heroes such as the iconic Superman, the equally iconic Batman, his lover, I mean, his sidekick Robin, the greatest heroine herself, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow,Martian Manhunter, Cyborg, Shazam etc.

Now that we have that out of the way, we can focus on the beef between Marvel and DC fans, as it pertains to the message boards of IMDB. DC fans frequently enter Marvel movie boards, and proceed to trash a film just because it was produced by Marvel studios. It is hilarious to witness the wars. But can you blame them? The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been kicking butt since their inaugural film, Iron Man, back in 2008. Whereas, DC has been having a few setbacks over the years. But don’t get it twisted, The Dark Knight is still iconic, especially Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker.

The message boards have been a battleground for YEARS now, where Marvel and DC fans fight over pointless, but funny crap. This includes issues like whether  the upcoming Justice League film will be a flop, or why Marvel continually shoves Robert Downey Jr down our throats, as seen in the trailer for the upcoming Spiderman: Homecoming. Sure, we love Robert, but why exactly is he in a damn SPIDERMAN movie?I realize that Marvel currently own the rights to Spiderman partially alongside Sony, so they are very excited to introduce him into their Cinematic Universe. But Jesus Christ, slow down. It’s been a decade, we get it, Iron Man is cooler and richer than all our faves!

The boards may not have the best reputation on the net. I mean, if you take a look at Johnny Depp’s ex wife’s board(Amber Heard), it is absolutely disastrous, for obvious reasons. I think Johnny’s psycho teenage fans, need to let go of their imaginary hate towards a lady that they don’t even know, and let her be.

I am terribly disappointed that IMDB have decided to terminate the best and funniest forum on the internet. I will even miss the racist trolls who always had something negative to say about ‘Black’ movies, Black actors/actresses/singers. Because they made me realize the power of internet anonymity. Oh well, I might as well start posting on some comic book forum for now.

P.S. And to think I was looking forward to the message boards next year, when Black Panther will be out. But you have to admit, his panther suit is sexy as hell!

Let me go somewhere and cry.
